As regards the notices of vacancy where graduates are required, each competition indicates the degrees accepted. Each year there is one competition for graduates from all schools. In addition, a large number of competitions are run for specialised categories of graduates. In general, there is a high demand for economists, lawyers, social science graduates, translators, etc.
The working languages in the European Union services are English, French and German. So, in addition to your mother tongue, you must have a thorough knowledge (level C1) of one of these languages. Excellent or very good knowledge of one or more additional languages gives the candidate a considerable advantage. Good computer skills are also a requirement for the majority of jobs. You should be able to use Microsoft Office programs very well, especially Word, Excel and Outlook. Any additional knowledge required is clearly described in each competition
The majority of the European Union’s services are based in Brussels and Luxembourg. Therefore, your career will probably start there. However, there are plenty of services in other European cities. For example, in Greece, Athens, Thessaloniki and Heraklion are home to specific European Union services
The advantages are numerous. A career in the EU institutions offers you a healthy work-life balance. Regardless of whether you work as a permanent, temporary or temporary agent, the European Union offers a competitive salary commensurate with your knowledge and experience. If you already have a family, or are planning to have one, Brussels and Luxembourg have excellent national, European and international schools and nurseries. Finally, as an employee of the EU institutions, you will be constantly developing your skills so that you can respond to a challenging career
Remuneration from EU services is generally tax-free. However, in each country there is a different regime regarding the imposition or non-taxation of fees above a certain threshold. In any case, these fees are not subject to the income tax regime of each state.
For most jobs, selection procedures are carried out by the European Union’s central personnel selection office, EPSO. Usually, after the first stage of the application process, there are written tests on a computer in each Member State. A certain number of the highest scorers are invited to Brussels for the next stage, which includes assessment procedures, group case studies, interviews, etc. Finally, a reserve list is drawn up from which the European Union services select their new employees through a process of more specific interviews.
Each selection stage has its own specificities. We at CEARS are very familiar with the whole process from application to the final interview and through this programme, we will transfer all this knowledge to you. We guarantee that you are well prepared, so that from the first stages you already have a strong advantage over other candidates. The competition will be fierce, but at the right time you will be ready to stand out!
